Samuel Czar Carrick Marriage Bond
This collection contains a photocopy of the marriage bond of Samuel Czar Carrick, the first president of Blount College, to Elizabeth Moore. The bond dates to September 21, 1779. Also included is information regarding the making of the photocopy which happened September 25, 1940 in the Rockbridge County courthouse in Lexington, Virginia.

This collection contains a photocopy of the marriage bond of Samuel Czar Carrick to Elizabeth Moore on September 21, 1779.
Biographical/Historical Note
Samuel Czar Carrick was born in Pennsylvania on July 17, 1760, and was educated in Virginia where he was ordained as a minister in 1782. He settled in Knoxville, Tenn., in 1791 with his first wife Elizabeth Moore (circa 1762-1793) and their three children. He was the first preacher in Knoxville, and he established the First Presbyterian Church (of which he was pastor) at the same time he was serving as the first president of Blount College (Blount College would later become the University of Tennessee). Following Elizabeth's death, Carrick remarried to Annis McClelland in 1794. He died on August 17, 1809.
