Abstract
In this article, Forrest Conklin discusses the circumstances surrounding Confederate General John Hunt Morgan's death. The piece was published in the Tennessee Historical Quarterly in 1976.
Biographical/Historical Note
Dr. Forrest Conklin was born in 1928. From 1945 to 1947, he was in the U.S. Navy Air Corps. In 1947, he became an ordained minister in Monahans, Texas. He then went on to earn his BA at Howard University, an MA from Baylor University in 1950, and his PhD from Ohio University in 1967. He began his teaching career at Clarke Memorial College from 1950 to 1954. He went on the be an Assistant Professor at Carson Newman College from 1954 to 1968. He continued his career at the University of Northern Iowa as the Director of Forensics from 1968 to 1978, an Associate Professor from 1968-1974, and a Professor from 1974 to 1997. He retired from his position in 1997. He was married to his wife Phyllis for 52 years. Dr. Conklin died April 3, 2011 in Tennessee.
