Abstract
This collection contains a pamphlet from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville Department of English, dated 1926 and copyrighted by English professor John C. Hodges. The text consists of a class schedule, reading lists, and instructions for academic writing.
Biographical/Historical Note
The Department of English has been one of the University of Tennessee's most prestigious programs for years. Today, the department primarily focuses on critical thought and communication. In the time of this booklet, the concentration emphasized form in academic writing. UT English professor John C. Hodges wrote and published the booklet, a precursor to the now widely used Harbrace Handbook first published in 1941. A benefactor to the university libraries, Hodges' name now adorns the Knoxville campus's main library.
