Abstract

This collection consists of a single folder containing a typed translation of a Japanese officer's diary from 1943.

Biographical/Historical Note

Paul Nobuo Tatsuguchi, also referred to as Nebu Tatsuguchi, was an surgeon in the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. He was a Seventh Day Adventist, trained as a physician in the U.S. before returning to Japan and being forcibly enlisted in the Japanese army as a medical officer. He died in the Battle of Attu, which took place in Attu, Alaska on May 30, 1943. His diary documenting his experiences in the war was found, translated into English, and widely circulated in America.
