Abstract
This collection contains nearly 40 items acquired by Drury "Dru" Bagwell during his time as a University of Tennessee, Knoxville student from 1960 - 1968. The materials include a variety of programs from campus events such as Carnicus, All-Sing, commencement, and other university sponsored activities.
Biographical/Historical Note
Drury Dru
Bagwell attended the University of Tennessee beginning in 1960, obtaining degrees in accounting, college student personnel, and law. As an undergraduate, Dru was in the UT Band and the Homecoming Advisory Board. He also served as the AFS Alumni Club President and the Carnicus Ticket Committee Co-Chairman. After his time at UT, Dru travelled to the University of Maryland to establish a new office of Campus Activities. As the Director of Campus Activities he was elected the first Faculty Secretary of Omicron Delta Kappa - Sigma Circle, and he maintained this role until his retirement in 2001. Upon his retirement, a lecture series named for him was established by students and supporters of ODK.
This collection contains materials from several prominent student-run organizations including traditional events, All-Sing programs, Carnicus programs, and UT Daily Beacon newspapers. Beginning in 1932, All-Sing is an annual choral competition sponsored by UT Student Government Association (SGA) All Campus Events (ACE). Beginning in the early 1990s, Carnicus is an annual student organization competition that has evolved from a vaudeville circus festival into a competitive skit-based event. Both events involve heavy participation from UT’s Greek life. The Daily Beacon began in 1967 as a successor to the 61-year-old publication Orange and White, and is presently published five days a week along with daily updates within their online social media presence (website, Twitter, Facebook.)
