This collection contains the original screenplay for the 1948 film Tap Roots, directed by George Marshall and starring actors Van Heflin, Susan Hayward, Boris Karloff, Julie London, and Whitfield Connor. The film is adapted from James H. Street's 1942 novel of the same name by screenwriters Alan LeMay and Lionel Wiggam. The film is set in Mississippi, and shot on location in the rural area near Gatlinburg, Tennessee and in the Great Smoky Mountains region of North Carolina. The screenplay is 146 pages, bound in red titled wrappers, and has pencil notations throughout.

Biographical/Historical Note

Tap Roots is a 1948 war film set during the Civil War. Based off the 1942 James H. Street novel of the same name, it is loosely based on the true story of Newton Knight, a farmer who attempted to secede Jones County from Mississippi during the war.
