This collection includes one copy of The Japanese Story, research and recollections of Stanley Sommers' World War II experiences as a prisoner of war.
Biographical/Historical Note
Stanley G. Sommers was born October 21, 1919. Sommers enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1937 and went missing during World War II in 1942 off the coast of Corregidor in the Philippines. Sommers served with the Naval Battalion on Bataan and survived the prisoner camps and marches of Bataan and Corregidor during the three and a half years he spent as a Japanese prisoner of war. He married Margaret Nealis (1925-2002). Sommers died January 16, 1994 and is buried in Wood County, Wisconsin.
