Sallie Morgan House Ewin used this notebook to record the song lyrics to popular songs in the American South during the time of the Civil War, as well as some of her own notes.
Some pieces also may be her own songs or poems regarding the South and the Civil War, notably Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. Only one entry is dated (1867), but the front inside cover is dated 1863 and 1864.

Biographical/Historical Note
Sallie Morgan House Ewin was born in 1844 and was married to William Goodwin Ewin (1842-1882). They lived in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, until she passed away in 1868.
