Freshman Caps
The two hats are both identical, green wool and cotton caps with leather inner bands sewn in. Only one of the hats includes its original tag and size marker. An orange UT logo and a central orange button affiliate both caps with the University of Tennessee. The two hats are in excellent condition.

Abstract
The Freshman Caps Collection includes two University of Tennessee freshman caps from the year of 1947.
Biographical/Historical Note
This collection contains two freshman caps from the University of Tennessee's freshman class of 1947. Freshmen at the University wore caps to denote their freshman status, and were a reminder to "tip their hats" to the more advanced students and professors.
A note included with the hats mentions Elaine Alice Curry, who was a freshman at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville for the 1947-1948 academic year. She was originally from Memphis, Tennessee and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.
