Abstract

This collection consists of a small bound notebook kept by Paul F. Tavel containing financial records for his bookbinding business from 1861 to 1864 in and around Davidson County, Tennessee.

Biographical/Historical Note

Little is known about Paul F. Tavel other than his trade of bookbinding and possibly publishing. He was likely an immigrant from Switzerland who resided in Stewart and Davidson counties, Tennessee. He was also a vine grower and wine maker. His son, Albert B. Tavel, was a stationer and printer in Nashville.
