Dwight L. McReynolds Collection
This collection includes photographs, maps, papers, newspapers, documents, booklets, and other publications kept by Brig. General Dwight L. McReynolds during his service in World War II (European Theater) and shortly after. The scope of this collection covers McReynolds' experiences while serving in World War II as a member of the 30th Infantry Division, the 117th Infantry Regiment, and the Tennessee National Guard. McReynolds' collection contains photographs, papers, military records, histories, a narrative, a story, maps, official court documents, and newspapers from 1926-1950, the majority of which are from 1941-1945. These documents are from McReynolds' time at Ft. Jackson, Ft. Benning, and flight school in Arizona. Others are from his time deployed in Alsdorf, Saxony, Bavaria, Holland, and other places in Europe.
This collection is arranged into 6 series based on format:
Series I: Photographs contains photographs (1926-1945) of his time in training in the United States at places such as Ft. Jackson, Ft. Benning, and flight school in Arizona as well as his service in Europe in places like Bavaria, Saxony, Alsdorf, and Holland.
Series II: Newspaper Clippings contains various newspaper clippings about McReynolds and World War II. Also included are three small periodicals: Two Time “Pony Editions” from 1945 and a National Geographic reprint of “Infantrymen- The fighters of War” from 1944.
Series III: Papers contains military reports, travel pamphlets and schedules, "secret" military documents, a leave record, a money order, a research paper about the 117th Infantry by Douglas Marshall, and a narrative about the "Company B" 117th Infantry by Warren Giles.
Series IV: Ephemera contains various ephemeral items from McReynolds military service including a Nazi uniform patch, emblems, pins made out of metal and fabric, a single bullet, a sticker, and a train ticket stub.
Series V: Books and Publications contains published works dating from 1944-1969.
Series VI: Oversized contains oversized maps, posters, newspapers, and photographs.

Biographical/Historical Note
Born in Cleveland, Tennessee, in 1908, Dwight L. McReynolds served in World War II in the European Theater. He was a part of the 30th Infantry Division, 117th Infantry Regiment, and the Tennessee National Guard. McReynolds attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga from 1947-1948. His civilian occupation was in Contractual Labor Relations. He died in 1995 at age 87 and is buried in Chattanooga National Cemetery, Hamilton County, Tennessee.
