This collection features John Crowe's personal narrative, "Days in the Wild Blue Yonder." This narrative is an account of Crowe's time in service from 1943-1945 during World War II. The collection also contains papers and documents collected by Crowe about the 491st Bombardment Group and the crew of the B-24 bomber, "Renegade". Crowe completed his narrative in 1984.

Abstract

This collection features John Crowe's personal narrative, "Days in the Wild Blue Yonder," written about his service in the European Theater during World War II.

Biographical/Historical Note

John Crowe served in the 8th Air Force, 491st bomber group, and was the copilot of the Phantom Renegade, a B-24 bomber from May through August of 1944. He was born in Johnson City, Tennessee, in 1923. Crowe was also a graduate of the University of Tennessee.
