Abstract

Biographical/Historical Note
John Burnett Stokely was born on August 9, 1846 to Adelaide Burnett and (John) Jehu Stokely II. He married Anna "B." Eliza Rorex (1852-1916) in 1872, and together they had eight children including James Rorex Stokely (1875-1922), who became the father-in-law of author Wilma Dykeman (1920-2006). John B. Stokely died on September 1, 1890 and is buried in Cocke County, Tenn.
