University of Tennessee Bicentennial Collection
This collection includes correspondence, plenary materials and ephemera from the office of Betsey Creekmore and from the plenary committee for the University of Tennessee Bicentennial Celebration in 1994. This collection also includes many publishing materials and notes regarding the publication and distribution of Creekmore’s book on the history of the University of Tennessee Bicentennial in 1994.
Series I contains the paperwork and correspondence materials between Ms. Creekmore and many different groups of people either about being invited to the bicentennial celebrations, in regards to her book, or providing a service during the bicentennial celebrations.
Series II contains entirely ephemera materials coming from the bicentennial celebrations including trivia bookmarks, name tags, note cards, calendars, commemorative magazines, bumper stickers, folders, and programs.

This collection also includes many publishing materials and notes regarding the publication and distribution of Creekmore’s book on the history of the University of Tennessee Bicentennial in 1994.
Biographical/Historical Note
“Betsey Creekmore, Associate Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance, is a native Knoxvillian. She is a graduate of Vassar College and Wesleyan University (Connecticut). The daughter of Knoxville historian Betsey B. Creekmore and the late Frank B. Creekmore, she is the great niece of former UT President James D. Hoskins. Her twin brother, David, is a Knoxville attorney.” Creekmore was the head for the planning committee for the University of Tennessee’s Bicentennial celebration in 1994. She also wrote “Tennessee: 200 years of the University” to go along with the bicentennial celebrations.
