Abstract
This collection houses correspondence, schedules, notes, lectures, and publications documenting Alexander Hollaender's 1962 term as Messenger Lecturer at Cornell University.
Biographical/Historical Note
Alexander Hollaender was born on December 19, 1898 in Samter, Germany. He emigrated to the United States in 1921, and was naturalized in 1927. He was educated at the University of Wisconsin, earning his AB in 1929, his MA in 1930, and his PhD in 1931. During his professional career, he worked primarily for two institutions: the Washington Biophysics Institute (1937-1950) and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (1946-1973). Hollander was also involved with the University of Tennessee, teaching radiobiology and biomedical sciences from 1957 until 1986 and directing the Archives of Radiation Biology from 1966 until 1986. Hollander died on December 6, 1986.
