Biographical / Historical

Jimmy Carter was born on October 1, 1924 in Plains, Georgia. He attended Georgia Southwestern College and the Georgia Institute of Technology. He received a B.S. degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1946. Carter did graduate work in Nuclear Physics at Union College in New York.

Carter was elected to the Georgia Senate in 1962. He was elected Governor of Georgia in 1971. In 1976 he was elected President of the United States. He served as president until 1981.
