Abstract

This collection contains 21 political caricatures drawn by Gene Graham, including those of Henry Cabot Lodge, Sam Rayburn, W. Averall Harriman, Winston Churchill, Mike L. Salle, Richard Russell, and Dwight D. Eisenhower, among others.

Biographical/Historical Note

Gene Graham (1924-1982) began his career in journalism with the Nashville Tennessean in 1948 and, along with Nathan G. Caldwell, was awarded the Pulitizer Prize for National Reporting in 1962. During his time at the Tennessean, he also worked as a political cartoonist. He later taught journalism at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and established the Mass Communication program at Middle Tennessee State University.
