Biographical / Historical

Knoxville High School operated as a public high school for grades 10-12 in Knoxville, Tennessee from 1910-1951. At its peak, the school’s enrollment reached around 2,300 students. With the building falling into disrepair by the late 1940s, the city of Knoxville built additional high schools and made improvements to others, but Knoxville High School closed in 1951. After its closure, the building was used for administrative offices and adult education.

The Knoxville High School building was designed by architect Albert Baumann Sr. It is included in the Emory Place Historic District which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
