Overview

Biographical / Historical

William Almond “Stormy” Knight was born September 26, 1920 in Waverly, Tennessee. Knight served with the U.S. Army and was stationed at Camp Crowder, Missouri, for three years during World War II. Coming from the teaching profession, Knight was first assigned to a Special Training Unit at the camp to help educate other military members in basic reading and writing skills. Later he was assigned to the camp headquarters message center. During and after the war, Knight assisted with the publishing of a camp newsletter, first called the New Streamlined Message Center Digest during the war and later changed to The Excrowderlite News after the war. Knight died March 14, 1987 and is buried in Humphreys County, Tennessee.
