Biographical / Historical
Camp Tyson was the only Barrage Balloon Training Center in the United States Army during World War II. Camp Tyson was established in August 1941 in Paris, Tennessee. It was a training camp for barrage balloons, which were used in aerial defense off the coast. Camp Tyson also served as a prisoner of war camp for German and Italian POWs. After the war, Camp Tyson closed, and H.C. Spinks Clay Company purchased the property.
