This collection documents the military service of James Joseph Malloy, a private in the U.S. Army during World War II, specifically from his time training at Camp Tyson. The collection includes scrapbooks, photographs, and service records.

There are approximately 60 photographs which show Malloy's time at Camp Tyson including images of trainings, maneuvers, and everyday life with fellow soldiers. The scrapbooks include records of Malloy's service and transfers, newspaper clippings, cards and telegrams, photographs, and ephemeral items such as luggage tags and tickets.

Biographical / Historical

James Joseph Malloy was born September 12, 1918, in Manhattan, New York. He entered military service at the age of 24 as a private in the U.S. Army. He trained at Camp Tyson in Tennessee from October 23 to November 25, 1942. After about 3 months of training, Malloy was promoted to Private First Class. Malloy died January 27, 2007 and is buried in Suffolk County, New York.
