Charles H. Hatchett Papers
This collection contains letters, newspaper clippings, and records from Charles Henry Hatchett, Private First Class in the 137th Armored Ordnance Maintenance Battalion. He served in Europe during World War II from 1945-1946. The bulk of the material are Hatchett's near-daily letters written to his wife, who was living in Knoxville during this time, from 1943-1946.

Biographical / Historical
Charles Henry Hatchett was a Private First Class in the 137th Armored Ordnance Maintenance Battalion. He was born on January 31, 1918. In 1943, he enlisted at Fort Knox Armored Force School. He trained at Fort Oglethorpe, Camp Chaffey, and Camp Perry. He was sent to Europe in 1945 as a mechanic in General Patton's Army and came back home to Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1946. He was ordained as a deacon in 1948 and started his own tire business, Hatchett Tires, in 1960. He died on December 19, 2014, and is buried in Knox County.
