Biographical / Historical
Acker E. Young was born March 23, 1925 to Stanley P. Young and Nydia Acker Young. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater of War. Young was a Private First Class Medic in the Company B 81st Medical Battalion Armored. He started his active service on August 4, 1943, and trained at Camp Cooke, California. On September 29, 1944, he departed for England and arrived on October 10, 1944. Young received multiple ribbons and certificates for his service, such as the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and a Good Conduct Medal. He departed to the United States on March 11, 1946, and arrived on March 24, 1946. He was honorably discharged on March 29, 1946. Young died at the age of 75 on March 18, 2001, and is buried in Pennsylvania.
