Biographical / Historical

Pfc. John A. Grove served in the European Theater of World War II. He was born in 1921 to Harry and Edna Grove in Tennessee. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1941 and went overseas to Europe in 1943. He was wounded twice in battle; his first injury was the result of his landing craft being bombed as it moved shoreward, and his second injury was him taking shrapnel to his chest on the Italian front. He was awarded three Purple Hearts for his actions. Grove married Betty Walker on March 31, 1945. He died in 1970 and is buried in Knox County.
