Biographical / Historical
Grace Evelyn Moss Farley was born in Ontario, Canada, in 1909. In 1929, she trained to become a nurse. By 1943, Farley was living in Massena, New York, and working as a school nurse. After talking to her brother, a WWI Royal Canadian Air Force veteran, 35-year-old Farley enlisted herself in the Army Nurse Corps. After training in New York and Indiana, she was stationed at the 231st Station Hospital in Norwich, England, an active combat zone. Her expertise led to her becoming chief of the hospital’s operating room. The highest rank she held was Lieutenant Colonel. Farley died in 1977 and is buried in Middlesex County, Ontario.
