Overview

Biographical / Historical

Clifton Otis Duty was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, on July 24, 1920, to Sylvester and Linnie Pearl Hollis Duty. After graduating from Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College, 21-year-old Duty joined the military at Perrin Field, Texas, on May 17, 1942. Due to his studies in chemical engineering during college, Duty was called into service as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Chemical Warfare Service. The war ended just as Duty was scheduled to go overseas with the 781st Mortar Battalion. Duty later served in the Vietnam War. Duty retired from the military on July 31, 1969. Duty died on June 5, 2009, and is buried in Orange County, Florida.
