This collection consists of John C. Taylor's typescript memoir, "To Be a P.F.C." At approximately 100 pages, the memoir details Taylor's experiences during World War II serving with the 227th Field Artillery Battalion, 29th Division. Included are Taylor's remembrances of training in Hawaii, particularly during the Japanese attack in 1941, and later serving abroad in France.

Biographical / Historical

John C. Taylor was born on August 8, 1917, and grew up on a farm in East Tennessee. During World War II, Taylor served as a Private First Class with the 227th Field Artillery Battalion, 29th Division, U.S. Army. Taylor died on February 14, 1985, and is buried in Knox County.
