This collection consists of a memoir, news articles, and photographs documenting the World War II service of Stanley L. White with the 392nd Bomb Group of the Eighth Air Force. The memoir is approximately 25 typed pages and details White’s experiences in the war between 1942 and 1945. The news clippings and photos are photocopies but include White’s handwritten captions and identifications.

Biographical / Historical

Stanley L. White was born on October 8, 1915, in Grayson County, Kentucky. He earned degrees from Western Kentucky University and Indiana University and went on to work as a teacher. In August 1942, he was inducted into the Army Air Corps at Fort Benjamin Harrison. Following training, White traveled in July 1943 aboard the Queen Mary to Greenock, Scotland. He and the 392nd Bomb Group then traveled through England and on to France. In June 1945, White traveled back on the Queen Mary to the United States. Post-war, he continued teaching for thirty-five years until retirement. He married Muriel Reynolds in 1952 and together they had one daughter. White died on November 26, 2008.
