This collection documents Lyman Zellar’s wartime service in World War II with the 14th Armored Division. It includes "Recollections of World War II Years" from Zellar’s autobiography, a typed manuscript of approximately 80 pages. Zellar describes his service from training to active combat in great detail. Also included are two publications related to the history and activities of the 48th Tank Batallion from 1945.

Biographical / Historical

Sergeant Lyman E. Zellar was born on July 14, 1916, in Rochester, New York. He received an education in Accounting & Business Administration in Rochester. He married Marion A. Stoffel on September 14, 1940. From 1941 to 1942, he was an assistant chief accountant at Taylor Instrument Company. He enlisted in the military on December 10, 1942, and served with the 14th Armored Division in the European Theater during World War II. After the war, he returned to Taylor Instrument Company until starting his accounting firm in 1952, Zellar & Zellar Accounting. Zellar later remarried to Helen E. Bates in 1952. He retired in 1977 in Harrison, Arkansas.
