Biographical / Historical

Robert George Chapman was born on March 6, 1913, in Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and English in 1936 and later worked as a sales representative for Cluett Peabody & Co., Inc. from 1936 to 1942. Chapman entered active service with the U.S. Navy on July 27, 1942, at Cherry Point, North Carolina. He entered as an Assistant Paymaster with the rank of Lieutenant (junior grade) and was assigned to Volunteer Supply Corps duties. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He was married to Marion Bankson Chapman.
