This diploma certifies that the East Tennessee Female Institute conferred the degree of Mistress of Polite Literature on Sophia M. White on June 26, 1861.
Biographical/Historical
Sophia Moody White was born to George McNutt and Sophia Moody (Park) White on January 13, 1843. She earned a Mistress of Polite Literature degree from the East Tennessee Female Institute on June 26, 1861. She died on January 13, 1902 and is buried in Knoxville's Old Gray Cemetery.
