Floyd E. Lamb Collection
This collection documents the World War II service of Floyd Lamb. It contains military documents, correspondence, diaries, and photographs. Lamb’s two diaries include near-daily entries about activities, weather, food, and more between 1942 and 1945. Correspondence includes regular letters from Lamb to his parents and other family members written during his wartime service. Photographs show Lamb and fellow soldiers in camps and cities overseas as well as engaging in social activities during the war.

Biographical / Historical
Floyd Edwin Lamb was born on October 9, 1914, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He enlisted in the army on January 27, 1941, and served as a Technician 4th Grade of the 53rd Ordnance Group. He fought in the European Theater of War, arriving in Ireland on September 8, 1942. He received multiple decorations such as the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars. Lamb was honorably discharged on July 13, 1945. Lamb married Winnie Gass (1918-1998). He died on April 16, 1984, and is buried in Knox County.
