Biographical / Historical

Earnest Briscoe Rodgers served in the Pacific Theater of World War II as a lieutenant commander on the USS Franklin. He was born on November 11, 1916. He served in WWII from May 1942 to September 1945. He received the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. Before the war, Rodgers attended the University of Tennessee from 1935 to 1940 where he received a degree in Finance. He later attended International Correspondence School from September 1946 to August 1947 to learn cotton carding and spinning. He worked in sales and management at Standard Knitting Mills, Inc. in Knoxville, Tennessee. Rodgers was married to Helen McMillan (1925-2010). Rodgers died on August 28, 2005, and is buried in Knox County.
