Abstract

This collection houses receipts that James T. Thornton collected over a period of forty years, from 1875 to 1914.

Biographical/Historical Note

James Thomas Thornton was born on July 25, 1849 in Tennessee to parents James A. Thornton and Amelia McMillan. He married Martha Jane Keith (1850-1936) in 1871. He worked as a farmer. Thornton died in Knoxville, Tennessee on December 28, 1933, and is buried in New Gray Cemetery.
