Biographical/Historical Note
Richard LeRoy Iddins was born on July 22, 1901 in Tennessee. He worked as a state highway engineer for at least part of his professional career and died in April of 1985 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Construction of the Watauga Dam (Carter County, Tennessee) began in 1942, but was delayed due to World War II and was not completed until 1948. The dam, owned and operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority, is hydroelectric and stands at 318 feet high.
