Biographical/Historical Note
The Abingdon Presbytery was transferred from the Synod of North Carolina to the Synod of Virginia in 1803 and again from the Synod of Virginia to the Synod of Tennessee in 1825. The Presbyterian Church in Kingsport, Tennessee (then called the Boatyard) was established in 1820 with Reverend A. Campbell as its pastor. Reverend Andrew S. Morrison succeeded him in 1822 and served until about 1830, during which time a church building was constructed.
