These papers document Dr. DeRidder's role in the administration of the Department of Educational Psychology, including the development of new programs and curricula. Also of note is the material showing the development of Psychology curricula in secondary education.

Biographical/Historical Note

Lawrence M. DeRidder was born on February 19, 1919 in Norway, Michigan. He earned his BS from Northern Michigan University in 1940, his MA from the University of Michigan in 1944, and his PhD from the University of Michigan in 1951. He taught at several secondary schools and universities, including the University of Illinois, before coming to the University of Tennessee as a Professor of Educational Psychology in 1953. He became the Head of the Department of Educational Psychology and Guidance in 1964, and remained in this position until surrendering his administrative duties to teach full-time in 1983. He retired in 1986 and became a professor emeritus. He died on December 30, 2008 at the age of 89.
