Biographical/Historical Note

Tom Siler, former Sports Editor of the Knoxville News-Sentinel, contributed greatly to the sports world and to society. Siler was a national celebrity and was known for his credibility and fairness in sports writing. Siler began his career working for the Associated Press and then the Chicago Sun. He also had articles published in magazines such as Sports Illustrated, Collier's and The Saturday Evening Post. Siler also had several books published including Tennessee: Football's Greatest Dynasty and Tennessee Cities and Towns, written after his retirement. Tom Siler stayed involved in UT Athletics and was fundamental in establishing a balanced all-sports program rather than the overwhelming football dominance.

Collection consists of 18 boxes divided into thirteen series: Awards and Honors; Personal and Biographical; Framed Photographs and Prints; Sports Files; University of Tennessee Football Files; Articles; Published and Unpublished Manuscripts; Newsletter and Newspaper Articles; University of Tennessee Athletic Files and Photographs; Various Publications; and Oversized Items.
