Abstract
In this document Andrew Roberts, administrator of Adam Clapp's estate, petitions the Knox County Court to allow the sale of an enslaved person named Roy so that the proceeds may be divided among Clapp's eight heirs.
Biographical/Historical Note
Adam Clapp was born on March 16, 1800, to David and Elizabeth Graves Clapp. He married Rebecca Roberts (1803-1869) in 1822 in Knox County. The couple had at least seven children. One of Clapp's brothers, Henry A. Clapp (born about 1806), and his family also lived in Knoxville. Adam Clapp died on March 18, 1843, and is buried in Knox County.
