William Edwards wrote this letter to his cousin Jennie Searce from camp near Battle Creek, Tennessee on 9 August 1862. He says that we have to quit writing until they get old morgan cleaned out of Kentucky and mentions that his unit has been eating poorly because they have had to ration provisions. Edwards also asks Jennie to write and tell if any of short creek Boys has enlisted ... they ought to pitch in and help us out ... they ought to be ashamed of them selves ... and requests that she and Ann and sis ... send me your miniatures.

Biographical/Historical Note

William Edwards mustered into Company C of the 2nd Indiana Cavalry on 13 September 1861 and was captured on 1 July 1864 at Acworth, Georgia, whereupon he became of Prisoner of War. His regiment saw action at Corinth, Stone's Rover, Chickamauga, Resaca, Kennesaw, and Wilson's Raid. Edwards mustered out on 9 May 1865.
