This collection houses proposed agendas and minutes of meetings, financial statements, membership lists, and general correspondence documenting the activities of the Tau Beta Pi Great Smoky Mountains Alumnus Chapter between 1976 and 1990. Due to the changing officers of the chapter, different methods of record keeping were utilized and so there are missing records and gaps in the collection.

Abstract

This collection houses proposed agendas and minutes of meetings, financial statements, membership lists, and general correspondence documenting the activities of the Tau Beta Pi Great Smoky Mountains Alumnus Chapter between 1976 and 1990.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Tau Beta Pi Association Inc. was founded at Lehigh University in South Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on June 15, 1855 by Edward H. Williams. Recognized as an educational nonprofit corporation dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in all fields of Engineering, Tau Beta Pi is more than an academic honor society. It is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and the American Society for Engineering Education as well as an affiliate of the American Association of Engineering Society. Membership has grown steadily throughout the years and was given a tremendous boost when Tau Beta Pi merged with the Sigma Tau National Engineering Fraternity in 1974.
