The A. Lee Read Scrapbook, 1902-1948, contains newspaper articles, letters, and pamphlets, mainly concerning the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Civic Chorus, and other organizations or Chattanoogans. The first folder contains the scrapbook itself, and the second folder contains loose material from the scrapbook in the order it was found. (Some items are separated by non-acidic sheets of paper to prevent discoloration.)

Biographical/Historical Note

August R. Lee Read of Cincinnati, Ohio, attended Notre Dame University as a minim (grade-school age students who lived in St. Edward's Hall on the Notre Dame campus) from 1909 to 1912. He worked in Chattanooga, Tenn., for various companies, including for his uncle Augustus Meehan.

Arrangement

Collection consists of two folders divided into two series: Scrapbook and Loose material from Scrapbook.

Acquisition Note

Collection was purchased in November 2004.
