This collection contains a single document signed by Andrew Johnson, Tennessee’s Military Governor at the time, and Edward H. East, the Military Secretary of State from 1862-65, under Union occupation during the Civil War. It appoints William Harris of Jefferson County as 1st Lieutenant in the 3rd Regiment of the [11th] Infantry of Tennessee Volunteers for 100 days (rather than the three years that is printed on the page). It was signed on September 19, 1864.
