The first six letters are written by Williams traveling through Johnson City, Memphis and New York City, apparently on route to England. Three are written on board the Cunard RMS Carmania. The last comes from Liverpool, after his arrival.

This collection contains a series of letters written by Samuel Cole Williams to his wife during June, 1921. In addition, there is a letter from 1919, offering Williams the deanship of Emory University's School of Law (a position he accepted and held for six years). The first folder consists of ten letters, written as Williams traveled north to take a ship to England.
