Scope and Contents Note

Contains newspaper clippings from the Reconstruction Era (post-Civil War 19th century) Tennessee. Most of the clippings deal with Southern politics in party platforms, the State and National Congress and Congressmen, Supreme Court decisions, and the economy. There are many poems, short biographies, and interesting facts.

Scope and Contents Note From the Collection: This collection is a scrapbook, containing newspaper clippings, kept by the Shields family of Bean Station, Tenn. The clippings pertain to politics in the local and national arenas, mostly dealing with the Reconstruction Era South and especially (East) Tennessee. There are also several poems, very short biographies, and interesting facts.
