Scope and Contents Note From the Collection: This folder contains four early militia documents on two sheets of paper from Nashville area dated 1793 and 1794. The first document -- dated July 23, 1793 -- reads in part, "I Morris Shean do hereby constitute and appoint Sampson William of Davidson County my Lawful Attorney to receive for me and my use of the Paymaster of the Militia of the Territory aforesaid, or of such person as shall be authorized to pay them for their services, the sum of three dollars and ten cents, being the pay due...

This collection contains eight love letters from the Reverend A. E. Clement -- commissioner of Galloway Memorial Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. -- from his wife, Alice. They are dated between 1912 and 1914 and many are written are Galloway Memorial Hospital letter head.
