This collection includes letters and a notebook of Samuel P. Johnson's, many of which detail his experiences during the Civil War. Many of the letters are written from Johnson to his wife Catharine and his children Mary, Charles (Charlie), and Margaret (Maggie) from towns throughout the southeast, mainly East Tennessee. Seven black and white photographs from the Park Hill Center of Cherokee Culture in Park Hill, Oklahoma, and nearby Fort Gibson National Cemetery, in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, taken by C. J. Doub in 1947. The grave sites of Chief John Ross and General Stand Watie are featured in several photographs.

Transcriptions of Dr. Albert Burke's educational television show, "A Way of Thinking," broadcast from 1960-1962. The show was broadcast on forty local stations throughout the United States, including on Sundays in Knoxville, Tennessee, where it was sponsored by the Appalachian National Life Insurance Company.
