This collection consists of two letters to William W. Lowry, from the Post Office Department and the Bureau of Pensions, notifying him of his appointment to Postmaster for McMinn County in Tennessee.

This collection, dated 1869-2005 (bulk 1869-1930), consists of patents, manuscripts, speeches, notes, correspondence, photographs, and clippings relating to William Waller Carson. The majority of this material documents Carson's work as a civil engineer, his employment as an engineering professor at the University of Tennessee, and his involvement with several Confederate veterans' associations.

This collection consists of two letters dated December 5 and 17, 1805, addressed to the Governor of the Louisiana Territory, James Wilkinson, from William Webber and John Capidy in regards to Cherokee land claims near the White River.

William Weber wrote this letter to his brother, Martin Weber, from camp at McMinnville, Tennessee on August 10, 1862. He reports that he and his company are well and tells of their recent victory against Confederate guerrillas. He also recounts an amusing story about their Major General (“Moniter”), who slept all day and got the company into trouble.

This collection includes a reproduction of a handwritten page by William Wertenbaker in 1869 about his time with Edgar Allan Poe at the University of Virginia in 1826. Wertenbaker comments on Poe's temperament and work as a student. At the end of the writing, Wertenbaker includes a brief list of the books Poe borrowed from the library during the semester. The letter in this collection is not an original.

In these four handwritten letters, William Wirt asks advice in legal matters and discusses military affairs and his finances.

These loose pages, which were taken from at least two larger volumes, contain notes about various court cases in Williamson County, Tennessee. One signature opens with the case Union Bank vs Joseph L. Campbell.

Tennessee Governor Willie Blount wrote this letter to Henry Newman, Jr. in Boston on December 10, 1811. In it, he expresses his hope that the United States will teach the indigenous people on the Wabash and their [foreign] aiders and abetters, that we are not only united but determined to be free and independent of all nations. He also discusses family and personal business, including Judge Hugh L. White and his family.

Tennessee Governor Willie Blount wrote this letter to Benjamin Homans, J. E. Smith, and William Blagrove of Boston, Massachusetts on November 22, 1810. In it, Blount thanks the men for sending him a copy of a speech given to the Bunker Hill Association in Boston (he does not mention who gave the speech) and expresses his appreciation for the organization's work.
