Donald Paine Collection of Tennessee Law Institute Lectures

Abstract

This collection consists of 33 audio compact discs (CD) containing sets of lectures presented at the 2007 and 2008 review seminars organized by the Tennessee Law Institute (TLI). The lectures are reviews of recent reported and unreported court decisions, new legislation, ethics, and other developments. Donald Paine is one of the organizers and faculty of the TLI.

Donald Paine Collection of Webster, Borden, and Cooper

This collection houses photocopies from American State Trials, the American Law Review, and the Tennessee Historical Quarterly documenting the crimes and trials of John W. Webster, Lizzie Borden, and Duncan and Robin Cooper respectively. All three of these cases are noted for attracting publicity and for involving complicated legal reasoning regarding the rules of evidence.

Douglas B. Hill Letters

Abstract The collection consists of two letters written by Congressman Douglas B. Hill, represensative for Fayette to Shelby counties. Both letters are to Abe Waldauer, who had close ties -- and later managed --the campaigns of Governor Gordon Browning. The first letter, dated January 26, 1925, is responding to a request by Abe Waldauer to get a pardon for an inmate.
