This excerpt is entitled "Carpetbag Philanthropy - Benevolent Assimilation And What It Means." It comes from a speech Edward Carmack gave in the House of Representatives in support of continuing the country's policy against imperialism as they considered their control over a helpless people 10,000 miles away.

The Edward Williamson Collection, 1945, consists of a book compiled by Williamson entitled Wild Tales of the Blue Yonder. The book contains stories of 21 pilots who graduated from the Army Air Corps Class of 1945-B.

Edwin L. Stanton wrote this letter to Charles Lanman on November 6, 1865 on behalf of his father, Edwin McMasters Stanton. In it, he informs Lanman that Stanton assumed his duties as Secretary of War on January 2, 1862.

This collection contains a scrapbook of newspaper clippings, photographs, and letters/invitations received by Edwin Sheddan Cunningham, an American diplomat. Also included is one folder with loose items from the scrapbook.

The 28 items in this collection, the Edwin T. Greninger Travel Letters, 1963-1992, are Christmas letters detailing the trips of Greninger and his wife Gem Kate through North and South America, Europe, Asia, Oceania, and Africa.

This collection consists of one scrapbook put together by Edythe Helen Taylor. The scrapbook focuses mainly on the Tennessee Valley Authority, recording its activity from 1934-1977 in handwritten notes, newspaper clippings, and official documents.

This photograph album, containing 96 photographs circa 1900, documents a Nile voyage from Alexandria to Khartoum, situated at the confluence of the White and Blue Nile. The album includes scenic images of travelers, banks of the Nile, cities and towns visited as well as archaeological sites. This album was created shortly after Sudan was put under British-Egyptian administration in 1899.

This collection contains 47 photographs of temples and antiquities located in Upper Egypt, including over 30 images of the Egyptian temples of Karnak, Luxor, Thebes, Philae and Abu Simbel. Also included are general views and close-ups of architectural details, statues, or bas-reliefs.

Occasionally, the images feature the region's native inhabitants, ancient structures still in modern use, and ships - including Egyptian dahabiyas and steamships - on the Nile.

Eleanor Creekmore drew these sketches of people and places in and around downtown Knoxville between 1949 and 1950.

The Eleanor Gillespie Papers, 1932, include local prayers and a copy of a T. B. Larimore sermon, as well as two letters from Bishop Thomas F. Gailor and Senator Elwin L. Davis pertaining to the Stones River National Park opening.

In this notebook, with covers of inlaid wood, Eleanora Armistead recorded her lineage from over twenty ancestors in order to prove her qualifications to join various colonial societies. Each lineage begins with a brief description of the initial ancestor and ends with a list of the references she used. Several include additional information such as the family motto or a description of their coat of arms.

This collection consists of the Confederate diary of Eleanora Willauer, of Dickson County, Tennessee, written between October 1, 1862 and November 9, 1869.

This collection consists primarily of photographs, slides, and negatives of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park that were taken during Dr. Kintner's frequent hikes through the park. Also included in the collection are a Kodaslide Stereo Viewer II and many stereoscopic slides, a cd with several photos and a spreadsheet of every photo in the collection, and two manuscripts by Dr. Kintner.
